Festival of Four Directions is a non-profit organization. We were formed from the need to make known the situation on the Navajo Reservation. We promote festivals and concerts, to provide needed funds for the Elders of Big Mountain and the Community Action for Children and Youth of Tuba City.
What Festival? A festival of people to benefit the Native Americans living near the Four Corners area of Arizona. The entertainment for this event will include music, magic, laser shows, drum circles, and native American dance troupes from various tribes. Where's it at? This area is a very spiritual and sacred place among Native American tribes. The exact location of the main staging area will be on a desert Mesa, approxamately .8 miles ouside of Tuba City Arizona, located in the middle of the Navajo Reservation. We have been in contact with the tribal council, elders, and cultural center of the reservation and they are all happy to participate in The Festival at Four Directions. Why do it? The profits from this event will go to Big Mountain Adopt An Elder Fund, which is a program set up by the Hopi's to combat the governments Forced Relocation Program. Also, some of the proceeds will go to the Community Action for Children and Youth, which plans on building a center to provide care for native American children who have been exposed to radiation from government mining on tribal land. The people have a high incidence of infant mortality and birth defects due to this exposure. We all know the injustices and hardships which have been inflicted upon the peoples of this area by our forefathers as well as the present day government. I believe that a festival like this will raise a very large monetary contribution to the people, and in a small way we can do our part in giving a little back to a culture whose been continually victimized by our benightedness. We can make this a real earth healing festival that will provide material needs for a people whom have proven throughout history to use gifts given them with wisdom and pure hearts. We can also do our part in spreading the love and kindness that our world needs at this time of global change. The festival will take place over three consecutive days. We are shooting for The dates of September 17, 18, and 19 of 1997. A chance to do something this important, does not come along every day. As you can see, this project is a large undertaking and for it to work, we need your help.
