A-Z of Faeries, Brownies, Pixies and Goblins
Aine- Faerie Goddess, sister to Fennine, daughter to Egogabal who was a king of the Tuatha de Danann. The Earl of Desmond married her and they had a son the Earl of Fitzgerald, who eventually fled in the form of a goose and Aine disappered into Knock Aine.

Arken Somey- Fairy pigs on the Isle of Man known as 'Lucky Piggy'. They're supposed to bring good luck if one is captured.

Asrai- Small, delicate, female faeries who melt in a pool of water when they're captured or exposed to sunlight.

Awd- Googie- A type of Bogie. Haunts forests and orchads and kidnaps children.

Banshee- An Irish death spirit. Their sight foretells a death. They have long, flowing hair, wear green dresses with grey cloaks. Their eyes are bright red due to their continous weeping.

Bauchan - Type of hobgoblin. They're fond of tricks, sometimes dangerous, sometimes helpful.

Bean- Nighe - Type of Banshee around streams in Scotland and Ireland. They wash blood stained clothing of people who will soon die. Rumoured to be ghosts of women who died during childbirth.

Bendith y Mamau - 'Ben-dith un momay' in Welsh is a name for faeries.

Boggart - Brownies who have turned evil.

Bogie - Generic name for different types of goblins. They have different types of temperments from benign to malevolent.

Brownie - A type of pixie. Tiny, shaggy looking men with wrinkled brown skin about 25 inches tall. They come out at night to perform chores and adopt houses which they look after. They expect a bowl of cream or good milk with a honey cake. Never criticise their work and never leave clothes or too much food as they take offense at this and leave.

Bwca - Welsh version of the brownie with a slightly nastier temper. They dislike criticism and tell-tales.

Coblynae - ( Also Koblernigh). Are welsh mine faeries. Similar to knockers and are considered good omens as their presence ususally symbolises the presence of ore.

Daoine Sidhe
- Name given to the Tuatha de Danaan. Their skin is Finvarra who lives in a palace beneath faerie hills of Knockma. They are skilled chess players and fond of hurling.
Duergur - A malicious form of the Dwarf in Northern England. They trick people into dying.

Dwarfs
- Short, usually bearded and appear very old. They exist in the mountains of Scandanavia and in mines in Germany. They are sensitive about their feet because they are ususally deformed. Dwarves can't go out in sunlight because it turns them into stone.

Ellyllon -  Welsh eleves who feed on toadstools. Their queen is Mab.

Elves - Scandinavian version of faeries either light or dark. In Scotland elves were of human size and in England they were trooping faeries.

Feeorin - A collective word for faeries. Indicating small green faeries who love music and dancing.

Fenoderee - Type of brownie from the Isle of man who likes to help farmers.

Ghillie Dhu - Solitary Scottish faerie who is found among birch thickets, clothed in leaves and moss.

Gwragedd Annwn - Welsh water faerie maidens who sometimes marry humans.

Gwyllion - Welsh mountain faeries who sit among rocks and mountain paths, observing those that pass by.

Hags - Personification of winter in Britain. They turn from hideously ugly (usual state) to really beautiful at the turn of winter to spring.

Hyter Sprites
- Faeries of East Anglia that can appear as sand martians ( a type of bird).
Jack in Irons - A giant in Yorkshire that haunts lonely roads.

Kelpie - Scottish water faeries, appear as young horses or hairy men. Haunt rivers and streams.

Lady of the Lake - A faerie whose palace is hidden by an illusion of a lake.

Leprechauns - Irish faerie who is solitary, very cunning and usually wears a 3-cornered hat. It is difficult to get them to take you to their location of pots of gold, you must spot them before they spot you.

Mab - Traditional Queen of the Fae.

Merrows - Irish merpeople, that wear a red feather cap. Femal merrows are beautiful and if seen they foretell a storm ahead. The males are ugly bu generally friendly.

Peg Prowler - Inhibits the River Tee's. A green water hag with long hair and sharp teeth. Fond of grabbing ankles of those that stand to near the water edge.

People of the Hills - English faeries who live under green moulds.

Phooka - Irish goblin who appears as various beasts- dogs, bulls, horse, has black eyes. Offers rides to travellers seeming kind but doesn't take them where they wish to go.

Pixies - Green faeries who take the form of hedgehogs. They are also known as urchins,piskies and pigseys. Originate from Cornwall. Like to dance and are mischevious.

Urisk - Solitary Scottish faerie who haunts pools. he is lonely and tries to find a friend but people run away because he looks frightening.

Wichtlein
- Southern German faerie who announces the death of a miner by tapping three times.
