| Aegir (or Hler) - The God of the sea that dwells on the Lessoe. He is usually depicted as an old man with a white beard. He is said to trigger storms and tempests and sometimes calms waters. Aesir - A collective name given to the warrior gods that lived in Asgard. Alfheim - The land of the light elves. Balder - The god of innocence and light and is the son of Odin and Frigga, twin brother to Hodur. He is depicted as a youth with blue eyes and golden red hair, his brother killed with an arrow of mistletoe while they were playing a game. It is believed that the norse festival on the summer solstice is in honour of Balder. Bifrost - The name given to the rainbow (or flaming) bridge, which connects Asgard to Midgard. Bragi - The god of poetry and music and is Odin's son. His wife is Idun. Eastre - (or Ostara) - The saxon goddess is associated with the resurrection of nature during spring, eggs were associated with Eastre because of the symbolic relationship with the beginning of life. The festival in honor of the goddess was combined with the story of Christ's resurrection. Forseti - The god of justice and the son of Balder and Nanna. Frey - The god of fairyland and the leader of the Vanir fertility gods. |

| Freya - (or freyja) She is the personification of the earth and sister to Frey and also leader of the Vanir fertility goddesses. Frigga - (or Frigg) The goddess is Odin's wife, Balder's mother and leader of the aesir goddesses. Fulla - She was Frigga's attendent who was called upon to assist mortals who had called upon frigga for assisstance. |

| Ginnungagup - In the Norse creation myth this name was given to the chasm of fire from Muspellheim and ice from niflheim fused to bring life. Heimdall - This god guards Bifrost, the rainbow bridge and is the possessor of the great horn Gjall. Hel - This is the name given to the land of the dead. Hermod - A god who is another of Odin's sons who travelled to Hel, to try and bring back his brother Balder from the underworld. Hodur - (also Hod) He is the god of darkness, believed to be blind and somber. he is the son of odin and Frigga and twin brother to balder, whom he killed with an arrow of mistletoe given to him by Loki. Hrungnir - He was a frost giant. Idun - She is the personification of spring and youth. Jotunheim - One of the nine worlds, the land of the giants. Loki - This trickster was the son of two giants who dwelled in asgard. He was associated with mischief and misbehaviour he became evil and was responsible for the death of balder by suppling Hodur with an arrow made out of mistletoe. he was punished for his malevolence by the Gods. Lorelei - She was a water nymph, and daughter to Father rhine. Midgard - One of the nine worlds, this was the Middle world, land of mortals. Mimir's well - It was said that odin obtained wisdom at this fountain located in Jotunheim. Muspellheim - This was the world of fire, it was said to be the first world that existed and said to be the last. The flame giant Surt/Surtr guards it's entrance with a flaming sword. Nidhogg - A dragon who dwells in Niflheim. Nifleim - One of the nine worlds this is the world of the dead. Nidavellir - The world of Dwarfs. Niord - He is the god of Summer and is always depicted as a handsome youthful man. Norns, the - (or the Fates) Three goddesses who are the keepers of destiny. Urd (Fate), Skuld ( Being) and Verandi (Necessity). |

| Odin - The holiest of Norse gods who sits on the throne of Asgard called Hlidskialf. All the other gods descend from him and he is usually depicted as a middle aged man with dark hair or bald with a hat or hood and a grey beard. He carries the spear Gungnir and wears the ring Draupnir a symbol of prosperity. He always has one eye hidden as he was supposed to have sacrificed an eye to gain wisdom at Mimir's Well. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Ragnarok - The name given to the battle between the gods and the giants which will cause the death of the gods and the destruction of the world. Ran - A goddess who is ran's wife. She is said to be cruel and often lurked near dangerous rocks luring ships to their doom. Sif - She is Thor's wife, her hair was cut off by Loki and replaced with a wig which the dwarfs made her. |

Utgard - A fortress of the giants located in Jotunheim. Utgard -Loki - A giant and the personification of evil. Valhalla - A great hall situated in asgard where warriors who fought in battles honorably were brought to rest. Vali - A god who is the son of Odin and was born to take vegeance upon Loki for killing Balder. Valkyrs - Battle women who ride through the clouds carrying the warriors who died in battle to Valhalla. Vanaheim - The world of Vanir. Vidar - Another son of odin, this god was the only one who survived ragnarok who lived to avenge the death of his father. The Waves- Young goddesses who were the daughters of Aegir, the god of the ocean. Yggdrasill - A giany ash tree who grows in the center of the nine worlds, it was said that it was never born and will never die. It is eternal and pervades the cosmos. Ymir - The frost giant created in Ginnungagup at the fusion of fire and ice. From his sweat of his armpit a son and daughter were born and from his feet a six headed giant Thrudgelmir.Buri's 3 grandsons kill Ymir and from his body the nine worlds of the Norse cosmos were made. |
