Birds
of Prey, Ravens Nest #3 of Frederick County, MD, a charter member of Birds
of Prey, Chamber of Baltimore Ravens Nests, is offering scholarship awards
to deserving high school senior football student-athletes beginning with
the 2000-2001 school year. This is to advise you of our program and
to outline the process for awarding these scholarships.
We
have targeted Frederick County High School football as an area where our
presence should be visible and where our fundraising programs could be put
to good use.

Awards:
There
will be two one-time scholarships awarded: one for $1,500 and a second for
$750.

The
winners will be notified on or about February 1, 2001. Only the
scholarship winners will be notified.
Scholarship
Candidate Criteria:
1.The
Senior football student-athlete epitomizes the characteristics of team
spirit, commitment, perseverance and dedication to the football team.
2.The
Senior football student-athlete has already been accepted to or intends to
attend a 2 or 4 year higher education institution.
3.The
Senior football student-athlete has shown significant involvement in high
school extracurricular activities, is involved in community activities,
and/or has work-related experiences.
Scholarship
Process:
In
early September, 2000, Birds of Prey, Ravens Nest #3 will send final
notice of the scholarship program and application forms to each high
school in Frederick County.
One
Senior football student-athlete from each Frederick County High School
will be nominated by that school's Head Football Coach in conjunction with
input provided by that school's Guidance Office. Letters of
recommendation will be required from both the Head Football Coach and the
Guidance Counselor.
Letters
of recommendation must address the selection criteria noted above as
follows:
Head
Football Coach - must address Criterion 1.
Guidance
Counselor - must address Criterion 2 & 3.
Deadline
for the submission of nominees is December 1, 2000.
In
January 2001, a panel of representatives of Ravens Nest #3 and other
community leaders as determined by Ravens Nest #3 will meet to review the
qualifications of the nominees and choose the winners.
Scholarship
winners will be notified on or about February 1, 2001.

6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Tickets:
$35.00 per person
Annually,
a banquet will be held in the spring where the scholarship winners will be
honored along with their families. j A full course dinner will be served,
followed by the awards ceremony. Community leaders, corporate
sponsors, members of the media, officers of the Chamber of Ravens Nests,
and (tentatively) a representative (s) from the Baltimore Ravens will be
in attendance.
