By Nous November 1, 2004 PUMPKIN PIE IS COLD FOOD It was rather early in the morning when my mom left to take my youngest brother to his game, and I was alone in the house. I knew there were all sorts of Halloween specials to watch, but what I wanted then was just some food. Something comforting. And there was a slice of pie waiting for me by the stove. But not just any pie. This was pumpkin pie. Here I must stop to acknowledge those who do not like pumpkin pie, because I must ask, "why?" Is it the taste? It is a sort of weird taste, I'll admit. That is to say, it isn't an easily categorized taste. I mean, it's sweet, yet not sweet. Buttery, yet not. It's got a good taste though. And it is such great comfort food. Great for a rainy day like today. At the time, though, it was sunny and warm outside. But just eating a slice of pumpkin pie made it feel as if there was a slight chill in the house. My God, did someone die in this room, or am I eating pumpkin pie! EATS A SLICE OF PUMPKIN PIE Yeah, I just got another slice. Whipped cream feels really strange. It makes me not want to top my pie with it. But it's too good. Still, it feels as if I'm lifting up rabies with my fork. I should not have had that last slice. THE HOPELESSNESS SETS IN I don't know why, but we went to the Olive Garden today and I ate more than I should have. There was a young guy working there who looked like a soap opera actor, with deliberately wild hair and a strength in his jaw. Very typical. I was thinking - and I often get little ideas like this - that I should take some pictures of him in secret, find out where he lives, call up a Soap Opera Scout (I'm sure they have a few of those) and have him go to that young man's house with the intent of hiring him for the - to begin with - antagonistic role of, say, Malcolm, the son of Lee (who, as you should know, runs the city of St. Dominic through a network of secret societies.) Then have Malcolm fall in love with Corina, the town sweetheart, who is currently in love with Luke (but who will break up with him soon, as they were not made to last as a couple - I mean, two people in love who BOTH both have hard consonants in their names? We don't want to scare the viewers!). As the romance between Bad Boy Malcolm and Darling Corina goes on, the rough-around-the-edges pretty boy will be shown to be a caring soul (time this with Valentines Day). And the die hard fans and casual viewers of ALWAYS ANOTHER DAY (the soap of choice [TV Guide]) will love him him until he is, as most loveable bad-gone-good characters are, killed off in some bizarre - and completely unexplained - fashion. But fret not, ye worrisome piggies. Do not drop your bowl of sea shell soup. For Malcolm will eventually return, and with a vengeance besides! So stay tuned... I smiled at the thought and crunched on my salad. What a silly boy Nous was! THE SOUTH WAS RIGHT! I'm reading this book. It's cool. Goodbye.
