~*~Part 7~*~

***Sable and her mother were sitting in a house they had found in the woods.  They had been running all day, and had stopped to rest for the night.

"Sable, come here.  There's something I must tell you."  said her mother.

"Yes.  What's wrong?" she could see the fear in her mother's eyes.  Sable knew this was going to be bad.

"We can't run any farther.  The elders will find us and they will kill me for what I have done.  Now, I must tell you the truth about your family before they come."  she said.

Sable was confused. {What has she done that would cause them to kill her?} she thought.  {And whatdoes she mean, "the truth about my family"?}  The confusion showed on her face.

"I know this sounds strange, but you must know the truth.  I am not your real mother.  You are a Redfern.  Your father and I found you in the woods when you were just a baby, and brought you to live with us.   We knew that the elders would surely kill you because of your heritage, so we made up a story about finding a woman dying in the woods and her asking up to take care of her just born child.  We loved you as if you were our true child, but knew that one day our actions would come back to haunt us. Now, you must go, for if they find you here they will surely kill you too.  Remember, I love you."  she said.

Before Sable could answer, her mother had wrapped a warm cloak around her and pushed her out the back door of the cottage.  She dared not go back as she could hear the men from the village banging on the opposite door.  Crying at the realization that her mother was dying inside the house, Sable turned and ran into the woods.  She found a path that led in a direction that she had never been and followed it. She could hear the others following her through the forest.

*BAM*

She hit something solid on the path in front of her. It was a man.  He tried to grab her arms, but she fought him.  She felt her fist connect with his arm, before she fell.  She felt her head hit the ground when she fell.  Looking up she could see the man standing over her.  She tried to get back on her feet but everything suddenly went black.

When she woke up, she was lying on a pallet in the woods.  Her head felt like it had been split open as she sat up.  There was a large fire in front of her and across from her was the man from the path.

"I won't hurt you," he said.  "My name is Aaronth.  You ran into me on the path and blacked out after hitting your head.  I brought you to my camp so you could rest.  I also got rid of the men who were following you."  He moved around the fire and sat beside her.  Sable could see that he was holding a tin cup that was full of something that smelled very good.  "Here, drink this.  It will help the headache," he said handing her the cup.  She took it and smiled gratefully at Aaronth.  Taking a small sip, she could taste the herbs in the liquid.  She finished the drink and handed the cup back to him.

"Thank you," she said. "For everything.  My name is Sable Draven.  I owe you my life."***

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Sable woke up with a start.  The dream that had been haunting her for months had come back.  {{But this time it makes sense.}} she thought.  She got up from the bed and had to sit back down from the headache she had.  {{Goddess it even feels real}}  She looked around the dark room, wondering where Aaronth was.  She found him in a chair on the other side of the room.  He had curled up, as best he could, in the chair and fallen asleep.  {{I won't wake him just yet.}} she thought.  {{He needs the rest.}}  When the headache had relented enough for her to stand up, she moved through the dark room and silently went out into the hallway.

The mansion was quiet as she walked down the stairs and made her way toward the kitchen.  She grabbed a Coke from the fridge and went to find Thierry.  It was time to learn the truth about her family.
