This is Jose.

Technically speaking, he is a small standard donkey gelding.  His father is a miniature donkey, his mother is a small standard.

Jose may be small-ish in stature, but his *aura* makes up for all that!!

Jose was born on April 5, 1997, in Quesnel, BC.  Here is a photo of him when he was 2 weeks old....
 

Jose came to live here when Mom and I bought him on October 24th, 1997 for my dad's 70th birthday present.  (He should have told us what he wanted, but he didn't...  So, he got a big surprise!!)

This is a photo of "the big day" when Jose entered our world and met his person, Bud Merz.

After settling in and bonding with his person,  Jose started to learn (or teach?) tricks...

A box to stand on was a big hit... Jose was able to look his person  more directly in the eye this way.

Removing the cap from Bud's head was no problem to learn, this is one of Jose's
favourite tricks...

Bud rigged up 3 bells on a rope and pulley for Jose to ring.  Jose learned
in about 10 seconds.  The bell is at the barn and Jose takes great delight
in ringing it.  Coincidentally, Jose's "cookie jar" is in the same vicinity as the
bell!  I am going to have to paint up a sign to hang there that says:

Ask Not for Whom the Bell Tolls, ...it tolls for
COOKIES!!
 *********

Jose has also taught  Diva- my 1998 Paso Fino filly, and Maya the WonderMule how to ring the bells.
The three of them are pretty good friends...
they definitely all have a mischievious side!
