"Bricks"

I had my defenses (walls) built so high,
No one could see over them, not even I.

I hid myself away from all the fear.
I missed the joy, the laughter, and the tears.

No one could see in and I couldn't see out.
I was locked inside myself, lost without a doubt.

My heart felt empty, dark, and cold.
Time had stopped, my life now on hold.

I tried to get out, I tried to break free.
Something grabbed a hold of me and wouldn't let me leave.

I had to break the chains and forget the fear.
I had to let go of the past and end all of my tears.

I took my first step and walked into the light.
I was no longer alone, ending my lonely nights.

What once used to be is now no more.
The fraction of what I once was is now a whole.

Gone away are my doubts and my fears.
I look foward to happiness and growing old in years.

So now all that is left are the bricks from my wall.
No longer to be built, but left to where they fall.
