Plotbunnies sprang out of the wilderness... Family Ties, Chapter One: The Family By Ratwoman ratwoman02@yahoo.de Albus Dumbledore waited patiently until the last student left Hogwart grounds for the summer vacation. "Have a nice holiday, Minerva," he said, turning to her with a smile. "You too, Albus," Minerva answered. "You're going to spend all the vacation with your family?" His smile brightened: "Yes, Minerva, all the vacation at home in the madhouse." Minerva chuckled. "If your two brats get too exhausting, you know you can visit me and Richard." Minerva knew, as much as he kept moaning to her about his sons, he would enjoy every single minute at home. She was the only of his staff who knew of his peculiar family situation; for once, most people would not approve of him living together with two women. Even more, two much younger women. He could imagine the people's questions: ‚Isn't that illegal?' ‚Two women? Can't get enough, you old sex maniac, can you?' ‚Isn't that unfair for the women? Mustn't they be jealous of each other?' If there was someone who had a reason to be jealous, it was Albus; Morrigan and Cassiopeia were bisexual and very much in love with each other. Since polygamy was illegal even in the wizarding world, they were not officially married to one another, and his sons, Severus and Sirius, bore their mothers' names. Furthermore, they tried to keep it secret that the two women and their sons were in any way related to Albus; it was saver for the boys, for a powerful wizard like Albus had powerful enemies. Lord Voldemort was getting more and more aggressive over the years; it was likely that he would attack his family if he knew about them. Since they lived quite isolated on one of the Orkney Islands it was easy to keep his regular visits undiscovered. Whistling, Dumbledore went to his quarters and gathered up his baggage. He loved his family. * Noise greeted him when he apparated in the hallway of their house. He distinctively could hear Severus' and Sirius's thin voices shouting and screaming, then Cassie joining in. A slapping noise, Severus crying. Albus sighed happily and went into the living room. Cassie was bending protectively over Sirius, tending some festering boils on his face. Severus was holding a hand to his face and was looking in search for help towards Morrigan, who, all her composed self, was standing calmly at the window. "Cassie hit me!" Severus called accusatory. Morrigan just shrugged. "She had a good reason." Albus cleared his throat. "Hello family," he said cheerfully when everyone was looking at him. "Dad!" Severus called. "Cassie hit me!" "Look what he's done to poor Sirius!" Cassie said, pointing at the already diminishing boils. "An ulcer sanies hex!" "He hid my books!" Severus called. "You mean, the Dark Arts book you stole from the forbidden part of Morrigan's library!" Sirius replied. "How did you get past the charms protecting the forbidden section?" Morrigan asked sharply. Severus stubbornly folded his arms over his chest. Albus sighed. "I thought we had talked about the Dark Arts. You shouldn't learn them before you're old enough to take on responsibility." "And who decides when I'm old enough? You, I guess." Sev hissed. "Severus," Morrigan started, but was interrupted by her son. "But HE may do anything he wants." he pointed at his half-brother. "You always favour him! I hate you, all of you!" With these words he run out of the living room and up the stairs. Albus heard him slamming the door to his room. Morrigan smiled resignedly. "Who of us shall talk to him?" "I will." Albus promised. Then he crouched down beside Cassie and Sirius. "Are you ok?" "It hurts," Sirius sniffled. But Albus knew, Cassie was a good healer; which was useful, having two bad-tempered, ten years old boys in the house. Cassie smiled at him: "Welcome home, Albus." * A short while later Albus gently knocked at Severus's door. He repeated it, but the stubborn boy ignored him. Sighing, Albus opened the door. With a sinister look on his face, Severus was sitting on the bed, legs drawn to his chest. "Get away!" he hissed. "Severus," Albus said patiently, "we all love you as much as Sirius, you know that?" Severus frowned. Albus sat down on a chair next to Severus's bed. "Did you really just hex him because he hid your book, or was there more to it?" "He's always doing things like that." Severus replied. "All his so-called pranks, when all I want is being left alone. And then he always tells Morrigan and Cassie if I do something they have forbidden." "And how often did you tell your mothers about Sirius stealing sweets and planning tricks on them?" Albus said slightly amused. "I wouldn't do that if he left me alone. I have to pay him back somehow." "And to the Dark Arts" Albus sighed, "you are very clever and mature for your age, Severus, but the Dark Arts, in fact all magic, requires a certain amount of responsibility. That's why in the first years at Hogwarts you will only be taught magic with which you cannot cause much harm. The Dark Arts should only be learned when you're old and wise enough to decide how far you can go, and when you learned not to use magic out of a fit of anger." Severus looked up. "Cassie and Morrigan already alluded to Sirius and me being send to Hogwarts in the autumn." Albus smiled. "Yes. But I must ask you and Sirius not to tell anyone that I'm your father, or that you are brothers." Severus snorted. "I'd prefer nothing to forgetting that he is my brother!" Albus laughed. "He's not that bad, is he?" Stubborn as Severus was he did not reply to that. * Later that day, Albus was sitting in the garden with his beautiful women. Sirius was climbing a tree and Severus was sulking in his room. Morrigan and Cassie both were looking forward to taking up their jobs as Aurors again when the boys were at Hogwarts. Morrigan and Cassie had fallen in love at work; they had already been a couple when Albus' old friend Alastor Moody had introduced them to him. It still was a small miracle to him that two wonderful woman had fallen in love with a man twice as old as them. Morrigan Snape was a tall slim woman with shortish, red hair and deep black eyes. Her calm temperament was in constant contrast to Cassie's, who was always buzzing around, unable to sit still for a second. Her long ash blonde hair was always dishevelled. Dumbledore's hair had been auburn when he was younger, but his sons had the same raven black hair as their grandfather, Albus' father. Fortunately for Sirius, he had inherited Cassiopeia Black's refined features and Albus' bright blue eyes. Severus' eyes were the same as Morrigan's intelligent black depths. Each member of Albus's family was adorable in their own way, he thought. At the moment, Albus and the women were talking about their sons' constant fights. "It's quite typical, Sirius is an Aries, and Severus a Scorpio." Morrigan said. "Both are strong willed personalities, both stubborn, but with interests that couldn't be more different." Cassie laughed and said: "I don't know as much about astrology as you, but everyone can see that Sirius is more interested in climbing trees and Sev more in his books. I'd bet, Sirius will be sorted into Gryffindor and Sev in Ravenclaw." Albus smiled. If so, his sons would be sorted into the same houses as their mothers. Morrigan smirked. "Maybe. Anyway, Sirius is very impulsive, like most Aries' he instantly does whatever comes to his mind without thinking about the consequences. And what comes to his mind usually is pranks, adventures, all the things we love and at times hate him for." Albus knew how she meant it; a prankster, by that one who was intelligent enough to think up the most complicated tricks, but never thought about the consequences of what he was doing, was quite difficult to raise. Of course, one also could not be angry with Sirius for long, because one knew he meant no evil. "Don't get me wrong, I love Sirius like my own son," Morrigan continued, "but Severus has more depth. He thinks a lot about life, the universe, and, quite typical for a Scorpio, also the darker aspects. And both of them are way too stubborn to see that there are other ways than their own, that everyone has their own way, and that other ways are not necessarily wrong. And of course, there's also the typical rivalry between siblings." she concluded. "I'm worried that our Severus might be lead astray if he indulges too much in his fascination with the Dark Arts." Cassie said. "All three of us know a lot about the Dark Arts, yet we aren't Black Wizards." Albus threw in. "We fight them." "We already agreed that he may learn them when he is old enough." Morrigan said. "He's clearly not yet, so remind me on replacing the protective charms on the forbidden part of the library." She smiled proudly. "I wouldn't have thought a boy of his age could ever get past them." * Albus very much enjoyed the summer, the time he could spend with his women and his ever-fighting boys. It never was boring, not for one second. At the end of summer he had to say good-bye to Morrigan and Cassie, but with his boys enrolled at Hogwarts he could keep a closer watch over them. He was quite looking forward to constantly having them around. To make sure that not one of his enemies found out that Severus and Sirius were his sons, they travelled separate; he flew to Hogwarts, his sons went by train, brought to the station by their mothers. Albus was confident that his sons were silent about their secret; they were intelligent, they understood the reasons. TBC
