The guard would only allow two rats go in, so Ophelia and Elwood went in as their representatives. The Wizards' room was stark white with nothing in it except him and a control lever. As the rats approached they overheard him mumbling, "Soon, soon I will get to put this to good use!" Elwood wanted to ask what the purpose was for this, but he knew it would be rude to ask questions at this time, so he let Ophelia tell about her parents' plight and waited for his turn. After they finished telling the wizard their stories the wizard replied, "Of course you may have my part of the cheese, Ophelia and Elwood, to rescue the king and queen, but there is still the missing piece that must be found. It would be best to leave your pieces of cheese behind rather than carrying them with you in case you get caught by the witch. I will have some loyal servants take each piece to their house so the witch will not know of their whereabouts." ' Do you know where the other piece of cheese is ?", asked Elwood "I can only guess" , replied the wizard. " I have heard that it is where the witch would least expect to find it, yet it is not in her possession, but is being held by someone who she feels is loyal to her. I know for a fact that the trees in her woods only pretend to be wicked. I have been told that when the witch is not around they offer help to lost people so they do not stumble upon the witches' castle and get eaten. So my guess is that the cheese is hidden with them. "
