| Caring for your rat is very important. Rats love to socialize and need alot of attention. They also need enough room in their cage to run around. In the cages should be a water bottle always filled with fresh water, a food bowl always filled with nutrious foods, bedding, nesting materials, chew sticks, and other interesting toys. The bedding should not consist of cedar or pine. I recommend using aspen shavings. I give my rat a blanket and cotton sqaures to nest with. She finds her blanket very cozy during the day time. If you're using a hamster or gerbil grain mix I suggest you either switch to a rat diet mix or feed your rat a verity of fruits and vetebles along with the grains. Rats are born to chew. They need to chew to keep their front teeth from growing so long they can't eat. I suggest chew sticks or safe bird toys. |
