Hey there, You should definately use a hanging water bottle. A bowl of water can become very messy. The rat may fling bedding and drop food in the bowl which then causes you to have to clean the bowl more then once a day. With a hanging water bottle that can be attached to the side of the cage bedding can't be thrown in it so it stays clean and fresh longer. Litter training a rat can vary depending on how old the rat is and what type of personality they have. If your rat is a little shy it may take them a little longer, around a month or two.
