We face the barbaric hordes from the East, an outward enemy depressed by their fear of tyrannical power, dictatorships, dire poverty, and endless atrocities and invasions. Terrorists operate on Faith and therefore live in constant terror of reality. Rather than investigate the cause for their fear � there are no virgins awaiting them in the after life - their knee-jerk reaction is to instill terror in others. They operate on Faith and therefore attack Reason. They object to the atrocities acted out against them, real or imagined, and therefore use atrocious means in their attacks against us. They are a faceless tribe, an enemy animated with deep resentment, and an enemy heated by fanaticism. To President Bush I would say that such minds are seldom in the proper temper of mind to calmly investigate, or for that matter appreciate the motives and ideals of the United States.
But� should our motives be looked into by these fanatics, what would they find? They would find a slow, intellectual poison killing our nation from within, a poison the end result of which presents a far more painful and humiliating death than anything their bombs and weapons of mass destruction could inflict on us.
