Abstract

          The study on Ethnobotany of the White Hmong at Chang Kian Village, Chiang Mai was proposed to investigate the local knowledge in usage of plants by the White Hmong. The plant name in Hmong Language and the traditional uses of the plants were interviewed.  The plants sample were collected, identified into species level and preserved at the Herbarium of Biology Department, Faculty of Science, Chiang Mai University.

          The plants used by the White Hmong are classified into 5 groups:- Food plants including herbs and spices; Plants used for cooking utensil; Medicinal plants; Plants used for household and others; and Economic plants. The information of plant names and usage were described alphabetically.  

          The utilization of several kinds of plant show the wisdom of the White Hmong, such as the usage of medicinal plants, weaving clothes from hemp fiber and the usage of natural dye from Baphicacanthus cusia.

          Among the plants used by the White Hmong, Lilium nepalense is the most interesting.  It is used for food and seem to be an endangered species.
