| A poem in stream of consciousness... Frankly, I don�t think I can do it. I read a story by James Joyce once. Junior year I think, but I can�t say I remember the name. He wrote in stream of consciousness. Obviously, I didn�t think much of it. But, That was a story -- Prose. Poems don�t work like that. Poems are �pools of consciousness.� What�s the difference you ask? The difference is between Currents and ripples. Streams have currents. Currents move forward. Beginning, middle, end. The wonder is that the water you see is always new water. Pools have ripples that go out to the edge then return. |
