In the name of the father

The movie is made over some actions, which took place in real life. It takes place in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in the early 70’s, where the IRA was extremely active. 
In the beginning of the movie we see Gerry Conlon on the roof of a building. He is stealing led, thievery is his way of living, but the British soldiers believe him to be a sniper, and therefore they start shooting at him. This attack results in a lot of riot between the soldiers and the Irish people on the street. Gerry manages to get away, but is directly afterwards being caught by the IRA. They wanted to give him a lesson, because he had been causing a lot of trouble for the IRA, but Gerry’s father, Guiseppe Conlon, manages to stop the IRA from hurting Gerry. Gerry gives up his life in Ireland after this incident, and decides to make a better way of living in London. On the boat/ship to England, Gerry meets an old friend, Paul Hill. They team up and moves into a collective in London. Although Gerry and his friends are in need of money, he refuse realise the truth when facing his father. This way he ends up, as he started, stealing money. One day a pub is bombed by the IRA. Gerry and his friends happens to be nearby, and because of him being irish, and some other coinsidents, the police arrests them. Guiseppe goes to London, and tries to help his son, but he also ends up in jail, being prosecutet for terrorism. Gerry and his friends are forced to sign a confession, and because of their confession they are found guilty. Guiseppe and Gerry goes to the same prison, where they are met with anger and furiousity. Some months later a terrorist is caught, and he confess that he was the one that bombed the pub, and that Gerry is innocent. The English governemnt can not afford admitting they were wrong, and put innocent people in jail, so they just turn in the blind eye. Gerry and Guiseppe manages to climb the hierarchy among the prisoners. After several years a lawyer takes up the case, and comes to the prison to talk to Guiseppe. Over the next coupple of years she tries to find evidence of Gerrys and Guiseppes innosence. One night in the prison, Guiseppe is having an attack of breathing problems. This is the cause of his death, and after this Gerry is extremely designated to make people realize the truth. After being imprisonned for nearly 15 years, Gerrys lawyer one day finds some hiddens files that proves the innocense of Gerry and his friends, and they are released. The policemen who had exposed Gerry and his friends to violence were never accused, those who kept back the files were never   convicted, and Guiseppes name was never purified, so Gerry are still figthing with the English government this day.
