Take me home!
MY FAVOURITE MOVIES
Moulin Rouge was the film of 2001. A visual treat which used the medium to it's fullest extent.
Although the movie was generally ignored by the awards, it was the best film. If you've not seen it, get the video or DVD. You will never listen to "Like a Virgin" in the same way again!
"Fasten your seatbelts" - it's that film with that line. All About Eve is set in the world of New York theatre and features some great performances, not least from Bette Davis who goes through all the emotions from mega-bitch to vulnerable.

Her supporting cast is great too, particularly Celeste Holm, Anne Baxter and not forgetting George Sanders as the conniving critic Addison DeWitt.

It was very brave for Davis to play an aging actress as it was probably very close to home. It paid off.
Talking about risk-taking, it was also very brave for Terence Stamp to take on the role of an aging transexual in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

This slightly surreal movie also made stars of Guy Pearce (up to then only known from Neighbours) and Hugo Weaving (who went on to be the villain in The Matrix).
It's not all camp either. There are some particularly touching moments where Tick (Weaving) meets his son and Bernardette (Stamp) sympathises with Felicia  (Pearce) following an ecstacy-induced run-in with some roughnecks.
Torch Song Trilogy was originally a stage play. I was delighted to hear that it was going to become a film. However, I had seen the British cast, so all the actors were generally unknown to me. What I didn't expect was an expanded work with some brilliant acting.

Harvey Fierstein plays Arnold, a New York drag queen. Matthew Broderick plays his boyfriend who meets with tragedy and Anne Bancroft plays Arnold's mother who is struggling to understand her son.

The underlying theme is that Arnold is searching for love and happiness. After some particularly harrowing times, he finds contentment and understanding.

A must.
