BEARS
Probably the first thing which comes into your mind at the word "bear" is a cuddly, fluffy plaything you can take to bed. Well that is what I'm talking about....sort of....
My Favourite Bear Links
Resources for Bears - a good starting point for international Bear information. It does have a US slant.

Bear Hug - a London-based national social group for bears in the UK. Publishes a regular magazine and hold events every month.

XXL - my favourite club night in London. Not just for bears, but you'll find a good bear presence!

So what is a Bear then?
The Bear Handbook by Ray Kampf says "...what truly defines a Bear are three things: Size, Hair and being Gay." He goes on to say: " A Bear has at least a size 36 waist. a goatee (it better be a full goatee; not the wisps of hair seen on a club kid) and will gladly be on his knees other than at church".

If you pardon the pun, the definition of a Bear can be a bit woolly. On the whole I agree that the three basics at the top go best to describing MY idea of a bear. If any are missing then you are dealing with a Bear Wannabe.
Of course like everything to do with the world, it is not as simple as that. There are varieties of Bear types as well as whether or not someone is a cub.

Like the other Bear world, you start out as a cub. However despite their resistance, it's very hard to believe a man of 50 still insisting he's a cub. But I suppose it's not just an age thing, but a frame of mind. Generally once a cub hits his 40s, he becomes a Bear Daddy.

There are quite a few venues in the Uk which cater for bears.  I've included some links on the left.
