To: Aslam Rasoolpuri, The list below shows names of 100 items in English and Farsi. This list is from URL: http://www.humnet.ucla.edu/languagesofla/farsi/swadesh-f.htm For comparison purposes, I added Turkish words in the third column. They are words having the meaning as given in the first column in English or otherwise explained. There seems to be kinship between as much as 50% of the Farsi and Turkish words. It seems that in Farsi, to make a verb, Turkish word "eden" meaning "one that makes" is added to a "root" word as a suffix. This makes verbs related to Turkish. I have marked the related words with (x) in the list. # English Farsi Turkish 1 I man men (x) 2 you to sen 3 we m?iz 4 this in bu 5 that ?o, an (x) 6 who ki kim (x) 7 what c(i ne, neki, neci 8 not na 'ma'/'me' negativity suffix (x) 9 all hame 'hamI' (x), hepsi, herkes 10 many zi? c(andin 'ziyada' (x) 11 one yek Bir, 'tek' (x), t/y change 12 two do iki 13 big bozorg 'b?(x), z/y change 14 long boland uzun 15 small kuc(ek 'k?(x) 16 woman zan 'zenne' (x) 17 man mard 'merd' "brave man", er "man" (x) 18 person ens?'insan' (x), adam, er 19 fish m? balik 20 bird parande kush 21 dog sag it, k? 22 louse sepas bit 23 tree deraxt 'direkti' (aga?)
