Fire Episodes in Klias Peninsula
The peat swamp forest ecosystems in Klias Peninsula are hanging in balance. They are sensitive to slight changes in the hydrology, ecology and other human actions. The most damaging is the forest fires.

The causes of the forest fires are numerous and inter-related. Either they are human-induced -- due to the farmers' deliberate efforts to clear their adjoining farmlands by open-burning; accidental trespassings; arson flushing of wild animals -- or by the sheer power of the elements of nature, the results to the forests are devastating.
