FISH COLLECTION RECORD : LABYRINTH FISHES
Iban Betta (betta ibanorum)
This species of betta fish is quite common in countryside  from Kuching to Sibu. They are mostly found in blackwater stream or drain. The taxonomy paper on this species is published on the latest Sarawak Museum Journal (Bau  special issue - year 2004).
Betta cf anabatoides -found in blackwater stream near Lundu. The one i caught is 12cm long! It got characteristic of Betta waseri of having black lip & black marking on throat. Both anabatoides & waseri group of Betta are quite similar to each others.
Mouthbrooding Betta (Betta lehi) - used to call Betta cf pugnax.
Betta lehi is mostly found in the stream or small river  of the most western part of Sarawak state. Their lower part of the head are  green colored.
Betta  akarensis
It was collected in a blackwater stream in between Miri and  Bintulu.
The coverage area of this betta is from northern Sarawak to central of Sarawak. It also can be found in Brunei area.
Croaking Gourami (trichopsis vittatus)
It is a beautiful gourami and they were found abundantly in  the lowland area near Samarahan River. They are community fish but they will  fight for territorial occasionally if they are put inside to a small fish tank.  When they are fighting, they will not fight until dead or seriously injured like  Siamese betta. However, they will make a funny sound like the frog. I have no  idea how they make it because only my cousin and his father saw that happened a  few times in their small fish tank.
Three-spot Gourami (trichogaster trichopterus)
This is a common species of gourami, mostly living in still  water of swamp and slow flowing stream in lowland area.
Pike-Head (Luciocephalus  pulcher)
This is a predatory fish  found in blackwater stream.
Chocolate gourami (sphaerichthys osphromenoides)- blackwater fish & sensitive to infections!
