| Rarewhere Roundtable #1 Welcome to this premiere edition of Rarewhere Roundtable. Every so often, the Rarewhere team will sit down and chat about the latest Rare issues. This time, we give our opinions on the latest schmozzle surrounding Rare: "What are your thoughts on the recent rumours stating that Donkey Kong Racing and Donkey Kong Coconut Crackers have been cancelled. Do you think they are true?" Tim: You know what? For the first time, i have absolutely no clue what is going on. All of a sudden, we find that DKR and DKCC have been taken off the "New Games" page on Rare's site. If it, as some people are saying, is a website problem, dont you think Rare would have fixed it by now? Of course they would! Rare would never leave an error on their website that could spark up the rumours once again. About DKR, no, i dont think that it has been cancelled, just put on hold, as Ryan will explain below. DKCC, from my opinion, would sell like the Xbox in Japan. That means? Zilch, nothing. Whats the point of making a game that absolutely no-one is interested in. Rare has indeed scrapped the title, to concentrate on its other killer apps. In other words, DKR is here to stay, and DKCC has been cancelled. Luke: Well I think that yes, Rare has cancelled these games. There have been rumors about Rare going 3rd party circulating the net for a while now and this looks to be pretty solid evidence that they will go 3rd party since Donkey Kong is a Nintendo franchise. I really do hope I am wrong and that Rare were just fiddling with the site or something like that. Demir: Absolutely not. Seriously peoplethink with me for a minute, these alligations have been made based on a website. Given it is the official Rare website and it seems highly likely, it's not over until the fat lady sings. How reliable is the Internet anyway these days? Do we all not remember April's Fools Day when various sites had pictures of what was to be known as the GameCube2? This super creation allowed our trusty GCN to play Dreamcast games as well as a hefty upgrade of hardware and was it just another prank? Yes it was. In my opinion Rare are just wanting for the right time to unleash games, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if Rare, being the shifty guys they are, released DKR on the same day as SFA, just without telling anyone, it might sound a little far fetched but its not impossible. Only time will tell. Ryan: Well, you can see from my editorial that I have many thoughts on Rare's latest shenanigan. In a recent edition of Rare's scribes they mentioned that Donkey Kong Racing was seeing major changes and may be looking completely different the next time we see it. Well, this is what I am leaning towards. This also further fuels my theory about the title going online. So Rare says Donkey Kong Racing is being changed, they are looking for network programmers and Nintendo is in need for more online titles. Who else better to turn to than Rare? No one. I believe that Donkey Kong Racing is becoming a GameCube online title. Of course this whole Rareware rumour situation is about the same is playing Russian roulette. You are either correct and you will be praised for it. Or you will be stuffing your foot in your mouth. Now we get on to Donkey Kong Coconut Crackers. Does anyone really care if this title is cancelled? I don't. I think it is poor and abusive to use the Donkey Kong license on a puzzle game for the GameBoy Advance. I think Rare has many better things to do that develop a puzzler for the GBA. I think Donkey Kong Coconut Crackers may be cancelled but I still am confident Rare is not going multiplatform. So one online and one cancelled? It fits the puzzle perfectly to me. And that ends this edition of Rarewhere Roundtable. Look out for the next edition in the next few weeks. Thanks for reading! |
