| News - Starfox Adventures Launches! Starfox Adventures, after 4 years in the making, has finally been released to open arms in America. Destined to be Rare's last GameCube title, it promises to be a spectacular game for all GameCube owners. The adventure game, developed by Rare, has been highly anticipated as far back as when it was a game on the N64. Somewhere near the end of 1998, Rare began work on an action/adventure titled Dinosaur Planet, starring a fox-like animal named Saber, who was accompanied by a talking triceratops....sound familar? Well, this is where it gets interesting... The History At a press event soon after the unveiling of Dinosaur Planet, Shigeru Miyamoto commented that Dinosaur Planet was very similar to a Starfox game Nintendo had been developing. "I may have to chat to Rare about that situation, maybe the games can be merged (laughs)...". Little did the press know, Miyamoto had just given the first hint that Dinosaur Planet was about to change...drastically. Immmediately afterwards, Dinosaur Planet went into hiding. Nothing was heard about it for months on end. During this time, the team working on the title pleaded with Nintendo and Rare's management to let it remain free of the Starfox license. Despite the pleas, Nintendo and Rare made the decision to not only to go back to the drawing board with Dinosaur Planet, they decided to transfer the game to the upcoming Nintendo Gamecube. Shortly before E3 2001, Rare and Nintendo confirmed they had collabarated on the Starfox project, and had given Rare full rights to develop a title under the Starfox licence for the Nintendo GameCube. The newly named "Starfox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet made a tremendous debut at E3 2001, and left the gaming world drooling in anticipation. Slated to be released alongside Nintendo's GameCube console on November 5, 2001, GameCube owners rejoiced. But as the release date closed in, Rare and the Starfox development team realised that there would be no way Starfox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet could be completed in time for the GameCube launch. Rare reluctantly announced it's delay.... After the delay, Rare scrapped the subtitle "Dinosaur Planet" from the game's title, and changed the logo twice in the space of a month. Renamed for a second time, Starfox Adventures was set a new launch date of March 25 in America, Rare promising "We will stick to it this time..." However, they did not. In early February, it was revealed that the game would be released on June 10...the 8th delay for this superb looking title. Gamers waiting for the game began to get fed up and tired of waiting, while others accepted that the delay would only make the game better. June 10 was marked down into everyone's calenders. The day was finally approaching... Sadly, the white-out had to be pulled out, as at E3 it became apparent that the game's release date was not June 10. Nothing was announced until June 16, when Nintendo officially announced the title would be released on September 23......Starfox Adventure's 9th delay. So, could we trust them this time? Thankfully, we can. Starfox Adventures finally released in America today alongside a slew of interesting promotional material. If your in America, get down to your local game store and pick up Starfox Adventures...Rare's first....and last, GameCube title....
