| News - Rare - Kind Hearted? Is it time to buy an Xbox? Has D-Day finally come? It all points that way. Earlier this morning, at about 2am Australian time, RareTopia and RareNet posted identical stories that stated Rare had been bought out by Microsoft. According to those top Rare fansites, Microsoft is set to buy Rare for an estimated 250 million pounds. (Some reports estimate the price to be as much as 350 million) Apparently, the deal has already been signed, and both parties are only waiting on Nintendo's signature to hand over its shares to complete the deal. It is unknown whether Nintendo will decline to let Rare leave their warm grasp, however this seems unlikely, due to the fact Nintendo has had many oppurtunities to buy Rare, and have failed to take any of these oppurtunities in the past. So what does this mean for GameCube owners? Quite simply, if this is true, the GameCube will see its last Rare game ever when Starfox Adventures is released shortly in the U.S. Rare will no longer support Nintendo, and will become an exclusive developer for the MicroSoft Xbox. It is unknown whether Rare will continue with its GBA games, but Rarewhere's guess is that Rare will cancel all there GBA games to concentrate on Xbox....it seems almost mean to develop for GBA and not GameCube. More news at appears, stay tuned to RareWhere for the latest. Sources: RareTopia, RareNet |
