Avro 504k and Fosdyke.

  Avro 504k... from a plan.
This is quite a new one, and at the time of writing had only been airborne once, just. Under powered/wrong prop. Built from a plan I sent for, well I've always liked the Curtis Jenny, but they don't do that. (Huh?)
Its 7 cells a 3:1 gearbox and a Speed 600 7v2, and should work, just have to find the right prop. First, (only), flight was fun, it wouldn't take off owing to the long grass, (and lack of umff). So I thought I can just about hold it behind the wing so i'll chuck it. Yes new model, an unknown, so he'll chuck it to see if it flies, (the blokes certifiable). Well it was a bit hairy, but I got it round in a circuit at about 5 foot high before it landed itself out of sheer exhaustion, there's a lot of drag there to carry round. But i'll beat it next time. As yet it still hasn't received a colour scheme or a pilot, perhaps that was why it didn't fly very well.

Fosdyke... from a free plan.
I've always wanted a light weight 400 powered job for those fantastic calm evenings, (that we remember, but now don't exist). And along came this free plan in one of the magazines for the Fosdyke Flyer. So a dive in the odds and you-know-whats box, plus some covering leftovers and I have this thing. It flies. Perhaps not quite as I had wanted, but then I still have the excuse to build some thing else. A good modeller should never be satisfied. That way you can tell your wife or girl friend, (as long as your wife doesn't find out), that you need to develop the model design further and will have to build more models.

Span 43", 400 motor, 3:1 gearbox, 10x4 prop, (would you believe an old Keil Kraft nylon?), 7 cell 600mA pack.

Oh I wish I could find a quiet gearbox, but then I even have noisy belt drives. One day I will buy one of those brushless motors that can turn a large prop without a gearbox.
But then again I'm one of those tight fisted old gits who enjoys not spending money.
By the way those Hurricane motors in the B25 cost a whole six and a half quid each, (that's English quid's).
But the belt drives cost a small fortune, rats.
