Condor.

  Condor...
The Condor is my 'just go and fly' electric power glider, for whenever I just want to pop to my field for a short relaxing fly, (unless you find a thermal). It's based on The Condor by Cloud Models, a friend gave me the plan.
It has gone through a power change recently, as it was originally a twin, "..a twin..?" you say, is this man mad?. Not really, (oh all right, yes), but I had a nice tow-line glider and didn't want to spoil the long sleek nose. So radical thinking time. How about a twin pusher?. I shuffled the rc gear so that I could fit a 7 cell pack and the twin motor module without upsetting the CG. Two 400 motors and 6x3 folders had Condor climbing away quite respectably with quite a nice whistle from those two props.
Don't ask why I eventually ended up chopping the nose off and fitting just one motor, I think it was a combination of having to take the wing off to change the battery as the connections were under the wing, and aligning that motor pod each time. Also I wanted to try a larger prop, but didn't want a gearbox, (hate the noise). So it ended up with a 12v motor running off 7 cells and turning a 9x4. (Sorry nopicture)
It works, it flies, I'm happy, ok so its not very efficient, but its quiet.

Picture of the twin motor pod, upside down.

Motors in situ at trailing edge. It was held in place by two key slots and the wing.

This just goes to show that there is such a lot of experimenting, and fun, that can be done with electric power.

Span - 100"

I was originally using 2400mA 7 cell packs in everything, but decided to use the lightweight 1300mA pack in the Condor. The weight saving does make a difference I think, she seems to hang around better while hunting thermals.

Back home.
