It was wonderful. Herschelle Gibbs played a great innings for South Africa, getting 143, helping his team to a formidable total of 306. To beat that required something very special. And New Zealand got that something in the form of their captain, Stephen Fleming. Deciding early on that he was going to bat the innings out, Fleming played some inspired shots to reach 134 not out. For the entire Innings Fleming looked completely in charge, playing shots all over the ground. Helped by the weather in Johannesburg (thunderstorms) New Zealand beat South Africa, scoring 229 runs in 39 overs, for the loss of just one wicket. Cometh the hour, Cometh the man. |
