OK, people, you've all seen Carol Burnett as the craby, drunken Ms. Hannigan in the movie. Yes, Ann Reinking and Albert Finney never fail to charm their way into that softspot in your heart, not to mention Aileen Quinn and her spunky, adorable cast of orphans. However, the success of the movie came after the play. The original Broadway production first opened in 1977. Andrea McArdle, then a mere 13 years old, sang and danced her way into your heart. You could hear her belting tomorrow from a mile away. Twenty years later, they decided to revive this play into a full scale Broadway Production. Unfortunately, it was somewhat shortlived, probably because of the bad press it received. The original Annie, Joanna Pacitti, was fired because "It just didn't work out." She had won a national contest and the lead in the Broadway Production. About 5 weeks before it opened, she was let go. Her understudy, Brittny Kissenger, 8 years at the time, took over the role. The produceers were highly criticised for their decision. The production is now touring the U.S.
