Queer people have created some wonderful communities over the years. One of my favorites is Provincetown, a small village on Cape Cod in Massachussets. It has a bunch of charming old homes and neat stores, and a nice mix of people -- even some str8 folk show up!
Another really cool place is Fire Island, a narrow strip of land off New York's Long Island. There are no cars allowed, so everyone goes over by ferry and carries their stuff around in little red wagons! Fire Island was probably the first gay resort in America, and just about every famous queer person has stayed there at least once.
