Los Angeles
We went to Los Angeles on holiday in March 05. We booked in October 04 with Expedia; an online travel company. We decided to go for 7 nights (well it's all we could afford). We decided to fly direct from London Heathrow to Los Angeles with British Airways. We flew out Monday morning and finally landed Monday evening (afternoon in LA). The flight was 10 hours 17 mins but with the time difference in LA (they are 8 hours behind us) it was only afternoon when we got there. We had booked a hire car in advance and picked it up from the airport.
We got lost travelling from the car hire depot to our hotel, Ramada Plaza Hotel & Suites. We should of gone North up the freeway but ended up travlling east through the notorious Inglewood and Compton districts!! We finally made it to the hotel 3 hours after landing. We checked in and fell straight asleep. Tuesday we got up early as we had alot planned. We had breakfast at a place called Ihop. We travelled to Griffith Park first and spent a hour walking round and soaking up the sun. We even saw the Hollywood sign from there. We then went on to see the Hollywood Stars and the Chinese Mann Theatre on Hollwood Boulevard. In the afternoon we visited the La Brea Tar Pitts, which is a museum about the dinosaur fossils found in the tar in the city. I wasn't feeling good at this stage so we decided to go back to the hotel. I had the flu!! What a great start to the week! : (
Wednesday we drove to Las Vegas. The drive was long (4 hours 15 mins) but alot smoother than we imagined. Not much traffic at all. It helped Gary driving at 90mph most of the way. We got there early afternoon. We had booked a hotel, Motel 6, located just off the Strip. We spent the afternoon exploring the Strip. The highlight was going to the Stratosphere Tower. We went up to the observation deck, 105 floors above the ground. We had a geat view of the city. The walk back to our hotel was tough as I felt sick so Gary kindly got us a cab back the rest of the way. A rest in the hotel helped before we ventured out into the casinos. Gary had a flutter on Blackjack. He beat Las Vegas!! He was a happy bunny that night.
Thursday again we had another early start. We had a helicopter flight booked for a visit to the Grand Canyon. I wasn't at all nervous which I was surprised about (I'm scared of flying!). We took to the skies over Las Vegas and headed for the Canyon. It was absolutely amazing. We had front seats with the pilot so had fantastic views. We landed in the Canyon and had 30 mins to walk about and take photos. We met a chipmunk that we nicknamed Muffin. He kept eating the muffins that the pilot provided for breakfast. Champagne and Muffins, delicious. We wanted to take Muffin home with us, he was a right little character. We each took a stone from the Canyon as a memory.
