   The prefix "arch" meaning principal, litterally translating to chief-
        angel. An elite group who heads the worlds of Angels
        According to the book of Revelations, there are seven Archangels who
     stand in the presence of God. While Michael, Gabriel and Raphael are
   known to be three of the seven, the identity of the other four are
   subject to debate: 
Uriel, Raquel, Zadkiel, 
Saraquail, Ramiel, Amael,
 Orifiel, Razil and Metatron.

  Traditionally, the four principal Archangels were associated with the four
    directions: 

Raphael-East, 
Michael-South, 
Gabriel-West and
 Uriel to the North.

  The traditional associations survive in ritual magic, in which the power of the Archangels is invoked when drawing a magic circle. 

The task of elementals, like
   that of the nature devas (angels), is to build up forms in the natural world, thus
 providing an arena in which other beings, such as human souls can evolve spiritually.

  Uriel controls the elemental of Earth Gabriel-Water,
         Raphael-Air and finally 
           Michael's task of Fire.

Many identify the color green with Raphael, perhaps to associate the healing
 of the earth. 

Gold with Raphael, to draw emphasis 
to his divine messages, 
and Michael in shades of blue, 
to show his divine messages
 

Islam
 In Islam tradition there are only four Archangels: 
Izra'il, Israfil,
     Mikhail and Djibril.

    The major function of these Archangels is to offer praise to God, 
although their functions as
  intermediators between God and 
man is also important, 
their role as intercessor, 
pleading for man before God.
 

Catholic
    In the Catholic tradition, 
there are two holy days associated
      with the Angels. The feast of Guardian
    Angels celebrated on October 2nd and Michael and the All Angels 
(often called Michaelmas)
   on Sept. 29th. 

There are Feast Days to celebrate 
Gabriel on March 24th, 
Raphael on Oct. 24th,
  Michael on Sept. 29th 
and Uriel on July 28th.
