This section is on feline skin, cosmetics, hygeine, and ears. These are all questions that have been submitted or that I have been inspired to talk about because of a question submitted. If you have any topics that you would like to have discussed please feel free to email me with the topic or question.
Cats are normally very fastidious animals. The one area on their bodies that is hard to keep clean is the chin. The chin gets put into dirty water, into food, on the ground, and it is mechanically hard for thecat to wash this area. Just like with human teenagers, dirt clogs the skin pores, the bacteria replicate, the body fights back producing pus (dead bacteria and the cells that killed them), and a pus-filled bump appears. The severity of this condition ranges from a few bumps to a chin full of bumps. The milder forms of this are rarely painful and do not seem to bother the cat. More severe forms do seem to be painful and can bother the cat to the point of not eating. Treatment of feline acne consists of anitbiotics to get severe cases under control. Once under control, cleaning and drying agents are used to reduce the dirt buildup. Similar agents to human acne control (like salicylic acid) can be used if necessary.
I have researched and answered these questions to the best of my ability. But I am human and make mistakes. If there is any part of my answer that you feel is incorrect, please let me know. The last thing I want is to disseminate false or incorrect information.
