Biography:

Laird Mackintosh returns to Phantom after performing with Opera Atelier in Moliere's Bourgois Gentilhomme and Handel's Rensurrezione in Toronto, Monteverdi's Orfeo at the Houston Grand opera, and Purcell's Dido & Aeneas in Singapore. Prior to that, he played Septimus Hodge in the critically acclaimed Western canada premiere of Tom Stoppard's Arcadia. Laird was a member of the National Ballet of Canada, and recently played the Soldier in a new production of Stravinsky's The Soldier's Tale. He understudies the role of The Phantom.

Laird Mackintosh is a native of Calgary, Alberta and has sung with L'Opera Montreal in La Boheme, Fidelio, CarmenTosca, Die Fledermaus, The Mikado; and with the Ottawa Choral Society in Madame Butterfly at the National Arts Center. In addition to his work in opera, Laird spent three seasons at the Banff Festival and studied ballet at Montreal's Ecole Superieure de Danze du Quebec, New York City's American Ballet Theatre and Toronto's National Ballet School. He then joined the National Ballet of Canada, under the artistic direction of Reid Andersonwho performed in such ballets as Symphony in C, The Four Temperaments, and The Nutcracker, also touring with the comany in Canada, the U.S., and Asia. Laird danced as guest artist with the Canadaian Opera Company in Die Fledermaus at the O'Keefe Centre and with New York's Niagara Ballet in Quixote pas de deux. Recently he enjoyed playing Rapunzel's Prince in Into the Woods at the Winter Garden Theatre. Recording credits include the Decca Capital recording of the Faure Requiem wit Sherril Milnes Te Kanawa. Most recently, Laird studied acting with Robert Barash.
