Biography:

Michael was born in California, US and was raised in the mountains of Tennessee. Michael has been singing since as far back as he can remember, back to when he was a little kid. He received his Bachelors of Music from Stetson University in Florida and his Masters of Music from the New England Conservatory in Boston, both degrees in classical singing. Before coming to the German production of Les Misrables, where he eventually took over the role of Marius, Michael had been seen as Raoul in the German production of Phantom of the Opera. He has also played Raoul in the Belgian production of Phantom which unfortunately closed on July 2, 2000. Right now he's doing auditions for several shows. Of course Michael is also keeping active with concerts and galas internationally.

After doing Raoul in Antwerp Michael was asked to do the role of Franz Joseph in the German National Premiere of the European hit Elisabeth (Original Cast Recording, Polydor-Germany). He has just made his Broadway debut this past November, where he is currently playing Raoul in Phantom. In America he has to go by his full Equity name: Michael Shawn Lewis.
