Federation is a science fiction setting. In some ways, it is very similar to the setting for the old role-playing game Traveller by Marc Miller. However, because Traveller is a fairly generic setting which effectively captures some of the same elements of settings that were common before Star Wars, most of those are coincidental rather than by design. Federation is not designed as a setting for any RPG, although it could be used for such. Rather, it is a setting and background for a story, or perhaps a series of stories that I intend to write.

The stories will take place in the far future: about a thousand years from the present. Interstellar travel has become fairly common, and humanity is spread out in a large collection of governments, one of which is the Interstellar Orion Federation, or simply the Federation (so named because its primary territory is in the Orion Arm of the Milky Way.)
