The BLOODLINES Campaign Setting uses the d20 Modern available here from Wizards of the Coast, the publishers and providers of the game. However, because this setting isn't modern, but more traditional fantasy, some obvious changes need to be made. Rules presented in a dark brown box are considered open content. The following changes need to be made to the rules as presented at the link above:
- Feat selection will be made from the list included on this website, and will include both D & D and d20 Modern feats.
- No published advanced classes will be used; rather various D & D and d20 published prestige classes will be used as advanced classes if players so desire. Any classes approved for use will be posted here if open content.
- The following d20 Modern skills make little to no sense in a traditional fantasy world: Computer Use, Drive, and Pilot. Demolitions still works, because this setting does use black powder kegs, flintlock pistols and muskets, etc. Replace Computer Use, Drive and Pilot with the skills presented on this website.
- Firearms rules are by based on rules originally created by Green Ronin. I've made some modifications and posted here on the website.
- All classes have an extra skill point per level baked in because d20 Modern characters are assumed to be human. If your character is not human, adjust this down by one (NOTE: the reprints of the classes here at this website already have this modification made to them.)
- All occupations will be replaced by those listed below.
- All playable races will be listed below.
- Ability scores will be generated using the "default array" of 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8. You will also have an additional +3 to distribute amongst your ability scores as desired.
- The Sanity system from d20 Call of Cthulhu will be used for each character. NOTE: this game is not open content, and the rules for the sanity system cannot be reprinted here.
- Subdual damage will work as in D & D, not d20 Modern.
- Experience points and CRs will be ignored -- you will level up after having passed through what the GM thinks are appropriate challenges, not when some table in the book tells you to. Also, don't assume that any encounter you have will be balanced for your level -- be prepared to run away if outmatched!
- No miniatures or battlemats are planned for this game. All the combat rules are still in effect, but combat will be resolved through description, not consultation of a battlemat. If absolutely necessary, I'll resort to rough, hand-scrawled diagrams of the combat.
