Now that spring is finally coming upon us. I find my myself longing for tee shirts, shorts and sunny days. Last night I was wandering around one of our local Target stores and I stopped and looked at what types of clothing this season was going to bring us.
Normally, I don't succumb to fashion fads, but I have a healthy appreciation for what my appearance tells others about me. So, I was looking around and something struck me as funny. I was looking at some plain old knit shirts. Kind of like a tee shirt but heavier material. They were solid colors with no pattern, logo or design. Just a long sleeved knit shirt. I looked up and the price was $25.00, supposedly on sale.
I just about cracked up. It's not that I cannot afford to spend $25.00, but this was a generic no-name shirt from Target.
Just ten minutes before I was looking at cd players. They had a walkman cd player for 45 dollars. So...are they trying to tell me that it cost less to make a cd player with 100 different little moving parts than it takes to make two tee shirts?
This society is so ridiculous and blind that they can get away with charging
these kind of prices for something that most people don't even need.
It's not even a reflection on supply and demand. You can basically find a
shirt anywhere, it's not like they're in short supply, everyone has one.
But just in case you were wondering, I did get a new shirt though. I
walked over to the mens department and bought two small shirts
identical to the one I saw in the womens department for $5.00 each.
And guess what, they weren't even on sale.
Just call me a rebel.

Shopping Crazed Bimbettes

What is the definition of a woman? A caretaker? A mother? A prostitute?

Well if you define a woman by what is represented on the internet, you will see an all new definition.

To most companies who cater to the online female, a woman is basically only someone who shops, gathers new recipes and chats. These web sites geared for women are filled with little hints and tricks to help today's woman find a boyfriend, get a new wardrobe and cook great meals. These sites are designed in a way to be easy to swallow and not too complicated to use.

.........in other words, they treat women like morons.

Where is the news and the technology? What about literature other than the Oprah Book of the Month? What about cars? Don't women drive
cars too? I'm pretty sure that not all cars are purchased by men alone. And the most ironic thing of all. Where is the information on computers? Wouldn't you assume that since a woman is using a computer to get online and see these sites, that a little computer information might be useful?

Apparently not.

Now granted I'm not saying that any of this is not available to women. They can go to the news, technology and car websites all they want. The thing that bothers be is that these sites present themselves to be the end all be all of where a woman can go and do anything/everything. But at these sites all you see is shopping, articles on relationships, cooking and home care.

Where is the fun stuff? Where are the intelligent articles or stories? Everything reads like a Dear Abby column.

I'm not slamming all women's web sites. There are some out there that
are well done. But it seems that the majority are taking a cookie cutter approach to what women want and do.

I saw a show on tv last week. It featured two women who created the
largest women's web site. I listened as this woman stereotyped her own gender. It was appalling. She sat there in her cute little gray suit, styled hair and tons of makeup and said approximately, that women want quick little bits of information and don't spend much time online because they are so busy taking care of their family that they don't have time to waste being online. Gosh, I'm glad she told me that. Apparently I have been spending too much time online. And I didn't even know that I was taking time away from my family. Especially when they live over 400 miles away. Does it mean I'm not a real woman since I'm single and don't have a family right now? Does that mean that I'm not allowed to go to these "women" sites because I haven't achieved that status?

I was so mad, I didn't even watch the rest of the show. I flipped the
channel to something else.

Someday, maybe, they'll realize that there are some women out there
who have interests in things other than families and relationships.
God forbid, maybe even a women's science fiction web site!
I can only hope that it happens soon, so I can be in on the fun too.
