I crossed paths with Trace a
few times after I came to Nashville. He was doing the same thing
I was, playing in a small bar on the east side of town. I was on
the west side. Scott Hendricks happened in on Trace one night
and you know the rest of his story.
One thing I've learned, if I've learned anything, is that
timing is everything. It can be unnerving at times
but patience and persistance is the name of the game, especially
if you're wanting a recording contract. Playing in a band isn't
the only thing you can do; even if you're not a polished
songwriter, you can learn by doing. There are hundreds of
musicians that spend time with each other every day to come up with new
lyrics, melodies, and fresh ways to record songs. It's a great
way to get your foot in somebody's door.
I'm still gigging in Nashville, not every weekend but often as I can. After all,
to be at the right place at the right time, you have to be
somewhere.
