October Meeting Notes

We met at Ray Osterhoudt's Airport (Camel Humpback).  There were 4 ultralights that flew in for the meeting.  We had a fantastic attendance of 24; last month it was 17.    Two new pilots joined our club Jim Croisant and Mitch Mitchell.  Their e-mail addresses are [email protected] and [email protected] Jim is a Private Pilot with lots of experience in conventional and high performance retracts.  He obtained his license in Kansas.   Mitch took his instructor with him to Texas where they assembled and checked out the craft before flying it home.  It took them 4 days to fly his new ultralight back to the southern tier.  We welcome both of them to our club and wish them much prop wash amongst the rest of their new found aviator friends.

The lunch was prepared by George Smith.  He enjoyed himself so much he volunteered to do it all again for next month.  Nice job George and we all thank you.

Before our meeting started Mel Mckinney, an instructor pilot, gave us a beautiful demo of how easy it is to take off and land the ultralight.  His ability to make STOL performances just gave us the feeling that he definitely knew his ship.  We applaud him for his abilities and just wish he would stay here and suffer the winter weather along with the rest of us.  I guess that is how it is when you’re a snow bird and have to go to Florida.

Our meeting started on time promptly at 1 PM by our president Ray Osterhoudt.  He introduced our new members as mentioned above Mitch and Jim.  They gave a little run down on their past in aviation and were glad to be able to take part in our activities.  Then we had our roundtable review of the activities of everyone who is flying or building.  This is where the fun comes in when everyone can get a chance to interact, make comments and give guidance good or bad.  This is the fellowship and ragchew that everyone enjoys.  Everyone has a story to tell and sharing others experiences is a good way to save someone else's hide and embarrassment.  We all need a little humor so let it flow...

For anyone who needs a flight physical Keith Nichols has an office in Owego.  His phone number is 687-0350.  He is with UMA at 502 Fifth Avenue Owego, New York.

The meeting was over by around 2 or 2:30 PM and all the ultralights got out without any problems.
