Our next meeting will be at Mel McKinney's place in Susquehanna Pa. He will also provide the eats for all, so do try to come. The meeting date will be June 18th at around high noon.
At our May's meeting we had a sum total of eleven guys and no one was able to
fly in. It was just too windy and it in fact rained in the afternoon. Jim
Croisant was our master chef and did real well getting everything going for the
meal. We had lots of
We like to thank our publisher Tom Lewis for his work getting the Ultralight news out; without him you wouldn't get the copy on time. Many things happen behind the scenes that make this club a success and it is easy to take it for granted.
One of our Charter Members folded his wings on June the 4th. Ralph Arnold
had passed away and will be sincerely missed. Our club was well
represented at the wake. Four
members attended and the Club sent flowers and a contribution to the Montrose
Cemetery Assoc where Ralph had worked for any years. His funeral took
place at the Daniel Regan Funeral Home in
We need to elect new officers in July, so be thinking about who to nominate and for what.
Our President, Mel McKinney, started the meeting at 1:07 PM by giving tribute to the American Flag.
The order of agenda was LSA (Light Sport Aircraft). This went on for probably 1/2 hour with much confusion as to the way the law reads or doesn't read. George Smith has been elected to give us a run down on what this is supposed to mean.
The Treasure's report was given by Gil Aitchison we have a total of $1,063.60 plus $100.00 in change.
There was also some discussion on Part 103 Ultralights and the 254 pound limit. There was much controversy on the issue, thus the reason for all our fat ultralights.
Alan Huntley put two hours in his Hawk with his new Rotax 503.
George Smith has been flying his Quicksilver in the early mornings and late
evenings. His
Tom Botheuser has been working on his Mini Max. He has been somewhat delayed on account of a car accident last week. His cracked ribs make it difficult to work on his aircraft. He was fortunate to get out of it alive; the other guy is still in the hospital in critical condition. This has been a major set-back for him and will cause him to hold up on his plane building and his hanger.
Matt Garbett has been working too much and has had little time to fly. The
cost of gasoline in
I've been too busy constructing at my home and as near as I can figure I probably already bought a Cherokee and now it is about ready to have a fully IFR package in it. The building supplies are really high. My hanger should be next.... I know it will never FLY....
Jim Croisant has been busy with his lawns and work around the home and also continues to check the internet for great deals.
Duane Ross tore his Rotax 503 engine down to find it was in perfect shape. He has 1100 hrs. on his Hawk.
Dave Thomas is back at Zaverton's Field flying and is doing a very good job of it. He found out it makes a big difference between a cruise prop and a climb prop. He is also working on his jet engine. He'd like for us to come down to South Montrose, Airport soon maybe in July. The new owner would like for us to fly-In weather permitting.
Mel McKinney is back home and getting his runway ready for a fly-in and is having us for our next meeting. He said, he will provide us with the meal. He also made sure our club supplied Ralph Arnold with flowers at his viewing.
Gil Aitchison has been busy maintaining his ranch and the runways.
Don Goodrich hasn't been flying ultralights but has been flying his Cessna.
The meeting came to an abrupt close on account of a cloud burst at around 2:30 PM.
Your Secretary,
Mel Wightman
