#97 USUA CLUB #66, Richard E. Miller Chapter NEWSLETTER
July-02
This
month's meeting will be held at Guy Rossel's place. Going South on 81 take exit
1. At the end of the ramp, turn right. Go .8 miles to Rt 7 South. Turn left at
the light and go 1 .7 miles south on Rt 7 to the blinker light. Turn right. You're
still on 7 South but it will turn into PA 29 South. From the blinker light go
11 miles and look for a bamboo pole with two orange flags. Turn right at the
flags onto CON ROY RD.
Keep left
at the big barn and go 1.1 miles to the top of the hill. Look for the gray
trailer on the right and park in the field to the left of the driveway.
Flying in
at this point is questionable. Conditions will be better known after mowing and
inspection. GPS coordinates are N41 .52.412 W75.52.31 3. Call Paul for status
prior to the meeting. (570-879-4627
This is
the month for election of officers. These are the guys who determine how the
club will be run and they are the ones who make all the things happen.
Volunteer for an office and make your difference for the club. This month's
meeting should be a must attend for all members.
There were
22+ members at the last meeting. I was absent for the third month in a row, but
Ray took notes for me and bailed me out again. Thanks Ray. There wasn't any
important business done except for setting up the nomination committee. The
weather was lousy and cold, but John Torta's hot dogs and hamburgers were good
and hot. Spirits were up as usual and the campout, though
postponed
went on the weekend after.
Airplane
wise, Butch Osterhaut sold his KoIb to a Professor from Cortland. Jerry
Frappier sold his Flightstar to a recent member, Roger Thorns, who hails from
Unadilla. Hope to see you at the mee:
Ray
Osterhaut is expecting delivery of a powered parachute sometime this week. The
slow speed and easy maneuverability make it perfect for taking off and landing
on his front lawn! The Pegasas is still for sale, so any member interested
should talk to Ray at 607-775-2951. Let's spread the
word and
get this plane moved. It was club member Gary Pressler that made the connection
between me and Roger Thoms that got my plane sold. Let’s do it for Ray.
Best
wishes go out to Tom Decker on his recent knee surgery. I know from experience
that this is a very unpleasant procedure. I offer Tom any help he needs and
invite other club members to do the same. Toms number is 607-775-1969.
I'm on a
personal cloud nine. After three false starts I finally went al the way and got
my pilots license. I'm flying a Forney Aircoupe. This will not take off or land
short or soft. With a full fuel load and a 200 pound passenger, I need a herd
of pigeons for takeoff assist. Once up, it's a great little plane and will
cruise at 80 knots. My wife is renowned in the club and at the Sidney airport as
one of the few wives to ever tell their husbands to "quite fooling around
and go buy a plane". I'm blessed with her support for my flying, but
payback time is at hand. I see many flights to Utica, NY and Groton, Ct. in my
future and a whole lot of Indian BINGO! I also see a lot of fly-in breakfasts
and flights to places we want to visit. I could have flown back from the Flight
test with no gas in the plane!
Anybody
out there still doing flight training in ultralights? Contact me as a point of
contact between people needing training and people offering it. I know of a
couple members who need to get some time in and would like to facilitate it. Do
not fly any aircraft for which you have not been trained and if you are new to
flying, or ultralights, let an experienced pilot check your plane out and have
some of the club gurus go over it with a fine tooth comb before initial flight.
My number is 607-639-2264.
