August/Sept, 2009 Newsletter

Our next meeting will be in the Big Apple, on the Intrepid Aircraft Carrier.  The date is Saturday September 19th when we will meet for our Shaffer Bus ride to New York .  We must be on the bus by no later than 7 am at the Cracker Barrel and the Regal Theater on Front Street  in Binghamton New York .  We will stop on the way for a bathroom break.   The bus will leave NYC at 5 pm and stop for dinner on the way back.  We are expected to arrive in Binghamton at approximately 9:30 pm.   Directions to Cracker Barrel are at the bottom of this newsletter and a map is enclosed as well.

The bus is fully loaded.  A total of 56 people will be going.  For those people whom I don't have e-mails for, I'll have to leave it up to the individuals who told them about the trip.  Duane and Alan and others please make sure your friends and relatives know where we meet and the proper time.  We want to make sure all are present.  If all 56 seats are full a roll call won't be necessary.  Jim and Ingrid Croisant have been spending a lot of time to make all the arrangements, let's not disappoint them and we need to show them our appreciation.   It took a lot of time and talent to pull this off.

Our last meeting was at Gil and Liz's home for a third time in a row.  Many thanks for allowing us to gather at your home.  Also many thanks for Dan Fiske for supplying the food for two times in a roll.

BY THE WAY so you guys know ahead of time, our October meeting will take place at Dan Fiske's home in Coventry , New York .  I will send out directions for his place when I write the next newsletter.  I am hoping someone else besides Dan will help with the food when we go to Dan's home.  Any volunteers are welcome, preferably someone who hasn't taken that opportunity to provide the task of showing off their skills in being chef for a day.

19 guys showed for our August meeting.  A young lady showed up to assist our cook.

Our flag was given the pledge of allegiance and was saluted; the meeting began....

Jerry Olmstead flew down from Hamilton NY this morning.  He got lost.  His GPS crapped out over the boonies.  Gil and Jerry went out to help him get his bearings.  He then dead reckoned to Gil's place.  He's only been flying around 10 hours this year.  There has been too much rain this year.

Mel Wightman had to completely replace his septic system, replace the roofing on the barn and replaced all cooper pipes from the domestic water source with Pex Tubing.  Spent a heap of money and been very busy with work on the lawn and garden this summer.  Now he’s working on fuel tanks for fuel oil in the basement.
