Utena is the story of a young girl whose parents have died. She no longer feels the will to live and jumps into a flooding river. A man comes and helps her out. He dries her tears and gives her a ring engraved with a rose. This man was the young girl's prince. The man tells her to grow up to be a strong, noble woman, and the girls love for the prince cjanges her personality completely. So she decides to not grow up as a princess but to be a prince like th man was!
Looking for her prince Uten joins Ohtori Academy ( a private school) The ring her prince gave to her has allowed her to enter the elite society of the student council and their duels. Utena has won one of these duels and now is engaged/living with the Rose Bride Anthy Himemiya.
Utena never seems to loose a duel. Spending so much time with the rose bride has made the two fall in love but even so, if someone beats Utena in a duel Anthy will be forced to leave her and be engaged to the victor. |
