The Dark and Bloody Ground
Episode Thirteen
St. Valentine's Day Massacre
A few days before Valentines day, Steph is visited by Jim. She is told that she is a Totem Warrior (as is he) and it is time for her training. She arranges some time off from work and classes. She heads toward the mountains near Manchester.
A few days later Leroy receives a call from his sister, Sophia. His dad is sick and Leroy needs to come visit. He also arranges some time off from work, but his professors suggest he may not pass the semester. Leroy doesn't seem to care.
Josh receives a call from Astrid explaning that both Leroy and Steph are going out of town, and as Saul is difficult to contact at times, would it be possible for him to patrol with her? He agrees quickly and heads out to catch a shuttle. While riding across campus Josh hears a tale from the driver about a haunted dorm. It seems that on Valentines day a few years earlier, there was a murder suicide and the few days leading up to Valentine the ghosts walk the halls. The dorm is Abernathy and Josh suddenly remembers fighting demons there on Hallowe'en night! He vaguely recalls something about the downstairs. When he meets up with Astrid he tells her what he's heard and she also remembers something about the basement - they wonder if perhaps a spell was placed on them to make them not remember part of the past Hallowe'en..
A cutaway to an alley shows a mysterous stranger in a trenchcoat buying something from an obvious vampire.
Steph receives training in combat and magic. She discovers more about the Totem Warriors and their enemy - the Wendigo. Jim suspects that the time for the Illiogor is close and there may be Wendigos already around.
:       Leroy arrives home. His dad is pretty sick - as is his sister. She says she came to visit, but may be coming down with something (
The whole town seems a bit off their feed lately) and could use Leroys help taking care of things. Leroys dad tells him that some strange letters have been arriving over the past few months about his older son, Henry. Leroy reads them and they suggest that Henry had started something with maybe a law or accounting firm before he died. It seems like whoever is sending the letters is wanting approval to go ahead and start. . .something.  A few days earlier, Leroys father sent a letter to the P.O box listed about his sons death. A reply letter was basically to the effect of Yes, I understand. Should we start? Leroy decides to send a reply and get whatever it is started.
Josh and Astrid check out the dorm and are attacked by a really scary creature - or almost anyway. The entire place has some major scary mojo working, probably designed to keep people out. Josh and Astrid start to fight the creature, but realize that it's just an illusion.
A cutaway shows the same stranger visiting odd occult-oriented shops around Murfressboro. He  buys several items and loads them in his trunk. Inside the trunk someone is tied up and gagged. The man gets in the car, checks a map of nearby Manchester and heads out into the night.
Jim finds a Wendigo hideout. He and Steph sneak up and attack them. Jim does well at first, but starts showing his age. Hes very strong, but he tires easily. Steph ends up saving him during the fight. Jim suggests something is happening tonight and they should be ready.
Astrid and Josh are able to make it past the spells trying to keep them out, they eventually make their way downstairs and find a room in the basement. A quick scan suggest a Voodoo practitioner. Before they can check out the place any further, another creature comes at them. Astrid shoots the creature with Josh's gun and realizes that it is real this time. They fight the creature and Josh manages to decapitate it. Almost immediatly they hear something enter the upstairs - apparently smashing it's way in. Astrid and Josh try to hide in the room, but whatever it is smashes through the wall and hits Josh dead on. Josh is able to roll with it and comes up on his feet - facing a werewolf! The beast snarls lets out a howl and. . .just before it attacks Saul rushes through the door firing silver bullets. The creature jerks away and the good guys take off running upstairs.
After charging up for a few hours, Leroy wakes up (activates?) and hears something coming from his sisters room. He checks it out and finds a vampire feeding from his sister. The vampire dives out a window with Leroy following. Leroy catches it as soon as they hit the ground. During the fight another one attacks - the second one is a pretty tough female vampire. Leroy tears the weaker vamps head off and then squares off against the other.
:       At the Old Stone Fort, the stranger and a couple of wendigo arrive. He starts a ritual while the wendigo stand guard. The prisoner is tied down and destined to become a sacrifice. Fortunantly Jim and Steph have been travelling quickly to prevent this. As the chanting starts to reach a crescendo, Steph runs up the fort and dives over and tackles the stranger, interupting the spell. The wendigo attack and hold Steph off, while the stranger restarts the chanting. Jim arrives, but the stranger is able to slow him down and just before the spell is completed -  a huge tentacle snakes out from the Fort and smashes the stranger. In the confusion, Steph is able to kill the two wendigo and then checks on Jim. He says he's fine, just getting old..
Leroy (Henry, actually) receives a letter thanking him for his response - a sample of his DNA from the last letter proves his identity and as soon as he can uplink computers, everything will be in motion.
Steph arrives back in town in time to call Nick and invite him over to her house for a Valentine's dinner. He says,
"Only if I can stay for breakfast." Steph is speechless.
Josh sends a message to Astrid, requesting her to go outside, she does and sees a carriage awaiting her. Curious, she gets in. It takes her to a park where Josh has set up a romantic dinner for two. He apologizes and let's her know that if she truly wants nothing to do with him, he'll leave and she can enjoy the dinner in peace. She considers it and accepts, telling him,
"This doesn't fix things, but it's a start."
