Nathan Wingate was considered something of a Character around M.T.S.U. Campus, where he worked as a Professor of Engineering. He was a bit of a clown, a major prankster, and was always tinkering with some new gadget - much to the chagrin of his fellow Professors (who were, more often than not, the target of whatever mischief he was up too). His students loved him and the faculty put up with his eccentricities due to his tremendous academic contributions. Professor Wingate could easily have found a better paying job at a much more prestigious University. In fact, most of his colleagues secretly couldn't understand why he accepted his position in the first place. Confined to a wheelchair since birth, Professor Wingate devoted his life to helping the disabled. Possessed of a fabulous intellect,

the Professor held multiple degrees, including two Doctorates and Graduate degrees in Psychology, Genetics and Computer Science. He had been responsible for great strides in Genetic restructuring to cure disabilities and performed surgeries to correct spinal injuries. However, his primary field of expertise was Engineering and he devoted the majority of his time and effort toward the design and implementation of cybernetic systems.

Over the past summer, Professor Wingate finally completed a cybernetic leg harness. He planned to offer it to a hospital equipment company. At the showing of the harness, Prof. Wingate realized that the interested party was actually with the government. Refusing to sell, things quickly got ugly and one of the Professors students was shot and Wingate had to escape - taking the student, Leroy, and the harness with him. Evidence soon surfaced that the Professor had built an entire cybernetic body and used it to save Leroy's life - turning the college athlete in to a superhumanly strong cyborg. A few weeks later, Professor Wingate was found dead in a warehouse that he had converted to a laboratory. The leg harness had been ripped from his body. It would seem that the government agent, Sebastian Cobb, a former member of The Initiative had went rogue. After killing the Professor, he kidnapped Breanna Carwell and tried to use her as a bargaining chip to force her father, Dr. William Carwell - a collegue of Prof. Wingate's, to perform surgery on Cobb - turning him into a cyborg as well. Fortunantly, with Leroy and some of his friends help, Breanna was rescued and Cobb was defeated and returned to The Initiative.
