WILL THIS 4.6 ENGINE FIT A RANGER?
Personally, I would like to close my chapter on using the OHV engine especially since Ford has ceased production of the 5.0 L in 2000. Besides, the current engine is an OHC powerplant that appears Ford is going to use for a long time.....

Yes this engine is burned and looks like hell....But it gave me the chance to verify the fitment of the 4.6L engine and the dimensions of the engine. I may fail at the conversion of the 4.6 Liter to a Ranger P/U but if I don't take the plunge, I will never know whether or not it can actually happen.
I found the install of the Mustang dash into the Ranger at one of many Ranger sites. This got me to think about removing the airbox from the Ranger and installing the airbox for the Mustang into the Ranger....That would allow the install of ANY V8 into the Ranger body and should allow the OHC motors Ford is using now to be installed easily...Stay Tuned....

The installs of OHC engines here are not in Rangers but in Merkur cars which are dimensionally similar to the Ranger...And the Ranger doesn't have the strut towers to get in the way....

UPDATE!!!! The following is the sizing of the 4.6 DOHC Cobra engine in the engine bay of a Fox body Mustang. While not shown in my Ranger yet, the Mustang is very close in size to the Ranger. And the engine size shows that the OHC engine will fit into the engine bay of a Ranger or a Merkur Scorpio or XR4TI. These swaps are in the near future and happening as you read this; I just need more time in the day and money on my credit cards!!!

The problems I have so far installing the DOHC engine in the Ranger is the coolant/oil filter outlet on the driver's side. I am working on making an adapter for this relocation. And this is for the PRE 98 truck only.  The mount is the standard Mustang mount that is bolted to the engine block. The SOHC engine doesn't have the same problem with the fitment. I can use the water outlet as is and relocate the oil filter as usual.
