OBITUARIES



Ethel Rose Harlow, 83, of Covington, died at 5:20 a.m. Saturday at Mercy Franciscan Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Robert Harlow, died in 1985.

Survivors include daughters, Patricia Whalen of Fort Mitchell and Kathy Mullen of Grants Lick; sons, Mike Harlow and Dave Harlow, both of Cincinnati, Danny Harlow of Florence and Bob Harlow of Covington; a brother, Justin Brinkman of Florida; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Thursday at Mother of God Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Suite 1026, Cincinnati, Ohio 45203.

Stanley P. Brinkman , 90, of Covington, died at 3:25 a.m. Wednesday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia. He was a manager of the bowling alley at the Latonia American Legion post. His wife, Anna C. Wagner Brinkman, and a son, Jerry Brinkman, both preceded him in death.

Survivors include daughters, Lois Rolfson and Margie Kennedy, both of Fort Wright; a brother, Justin Brinkman of Florida; sisters, Margaret Tranter of Burlington and Ethel Harlow of Covington; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Margaret Mary Brinkman Tranter, 88, of Covington, died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence She was a homemaker. Her husband, Edwin W. Tranter, died in 1998.

Survivors include a son, Ed Tranter of Erlanger; a daughter, Sharon Blasingame of Covington; a brother, Justin Brinkman of Bonita Springs, Fla.; a sister, Ethel Harlow of Covington; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

W. Edwin Tranter Sr. , 90, of Covington, died at 9:45 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice, Covington. He was the retired owner and operator of Charlie and Ed's Liquor Store, formerly at 9th and Main streets, Covington. He was a member of the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret M. Brinkman Tranter; a son, Ed Tranter Jr. of Erlanger; a daughter, Sharon A. Blasingame of Covington; sisters, Helen A. Fichlie and A. Augusta Schultz, both of Covington, and Winifred E. Schroder of Ft. Mitchell; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Church, Covington. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Bernard J. Brinkman, owned Brinkman's Service Station

Bernard J. Brinkman was a father figure to many youngsters who came to his service stations to work on their bicycles.

''He would get after them if they did something wrong,'' said his wife, K. Loraine Lahner Brinkman. ''They listened to him. They all thought a lot of him.''

Mr. Brinkman, 80, of Covington, died at 12:45 a.m. Monday at his home.

He was the retired owner of Brinkman's Service Station, with lo- cations in Erlanger, Covington and Woodlawn.

If people didn't have money to pay for their gasoline, he would let them get it anyway. When people needed help with electric bills, Brinkman would pay them. ''He was a very generous man,'' Mrs. Brinkman said. ''In Newport, they had a special night to honor him because they thought so much of him.''

Mr. Brinkman was a member of St. Patrick Church, Independence. He also was a member of the church Irish Rovers, Covington Senior Citizens and Disabled American Veterans. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He enjoyed golf.

Mr. Brinkman and his wife were married 52 years. Other survivors include sons, David Brinkman of Fort Thomas and Greg Brinkman of Elsmere; a daughter, Diane McPherson of Florence; a sister, Gertrude Harlow of Covington; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Home-Health Hospice, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.
