Coosa 4, Hiram 3
The Eagles got a
victory in their season opener in a back-and-forth affair at Hiram in Paulding
County. Coosa (1-0) got the scoring going in the sixth minute when William
Navarrete netted an unassisted goal. Seven minutes later, the Hornets responded
with a goal of their own to tie the game at 1, which was the score at halftime.
Coosa grabbed a 2-1 lead in the 54th minute when Navarrete hit Adrian Marks
with a pass and he scored to give the Eagles a one-goal advantage. Again, the
lead was short-lived, as Hiram got a goal of its own in the 56th minute to
level the game at 2-2. Coosa’s Ryan Stroupe scored in the 68th minute when he
took a pass from Marks and buried it to put the Eagles up 3-2. Two minutes later,
the Hornets struck back and tied the game again, this time at 3. But Navarrete
sealed the win for Coosa in the 75th minute when he scored off a pass from
Stroupe. Freshman Jorge Galvis made 20 saves to get the win in goal for the
Eagles.
