Dr. Ed Hindson (Linda's dad): As many of you know, Dr. Hindson had heart quintuple (5) bypass surgery on February 25 and developed a staff infection. He was very sick for several weeks, including pneumonia symptoms and bronchitis. As of 9/7/08: Ed is doing much better. He is back to teaching and continuing to gain strength. Thank you for your prayers. |

| Crash Information | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The crash happened around 8:30pm on Sunday November 5, 2006 about 1/2-mile from their home near Lynchburg, Virginia. Andy, Linda, and the kids were on their way home from the evening church service, where Jen sang in the youth choir and Dr. Ed Hindson, Linda's dad, preached to a congregation of 5,000. Some friends and family were coming over to watch football. The Barricks stopped to pick up some chicken at KFC, so some of their guests arrived ahead of them, but eventually became concerned when the Barricks didn't show up. A drunk driver was traveling at high speed coming in the opposite direction in their lane, likely with headlights off. Impact was head-on; the injuries and vehicle damage indicate that Andy swerved slightly to the right. Andy was driving. Linda was in the front passenger seat. Jen was sitting behind Andy. Josh was behind Linda. Josh remembers hearing his dad shout "Watch out!" in the split second before the crash. Andy & Linda were in and out of consciousness while waiting to be extracted from the vehicle. They both remember consoling Josh (who was conscious), holding hands, praying, and quoting scripture together. At some point, Josh was able to exit the vehicle on his own. It took rescuers about 45 minutes to free Andy and Linda. Those at the scene said it is a miracle that they are alive. Andy was flown immediately to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Jen was airlifted to Lynchburg General because her records mistakenly showed her to be age 21. There she received a CAT scan and some possibly life-saving medicine before her true age was realized. Then she was airlifted to University of Virginia Charlottesville, a trip she may not have survived without the treatment in Lynchburg. Linda and Josh were taken to Lynchburg General Hospital, then Josh was taken to Roanoke to have his spleen checked. Josh was released on Tuesday 11/7/06 and started back to school on 11/14/06. Andy was moved to UVa Charlottesville on Thursday 11/9/06. Linda was released around 11/17/06. On 11/21/06, Andy was released after a few days in the rehab center, and Jen was moved to a children's rehabilitation center. On 2/9/07, Jen was released and the whole family is together at their home in Forest, Virginia. |

| I am neither a medical professional nor a web expert, just an engineer and friend of the Barricks looking for a way to keep people informed without fielding constant phone calls, and to reduce the calls to the extended families. Geocites.com is a free web hosting service provided by Yahoo; thus all the ads (hopefully nothing offensive). My wife Susan and I (and our 5 kids) live in Hershey Pennsylvania and are close friends of the Barricks. I will do my best to provide updates with factual information. The primary purpose is to help people pray for the specific needs. If anyone knows of an error, please email me at [email protected]. |
