From Atlanta there is no such thing as a direct flight into St. Lucia. We're sure it exists from other cities. The main airline is Air Jamaica which is tied in with Delta. We had a layover in Jamaica ( brief) then flew on to St. Lucia. Our total air time was under 5 hours. With the layover, baggage, customs, and boarding time it took us a total of 8 hours to get to St. Lucia.
The flight we took was a champagne flight which offered free champagne, red stripe beer and wine. Not a bad way to pass the time! They also had an inflight movie to view and the food was pretty good ( caribbean cuisine).
Check with your travel agent about any specials going on. We got a pretty good deal.
The airport we arrived in was Vieux Fort. We gathered that this is where the larger airplanes land. There is a smaller airport at the north end of the island. Once we landed we had a bus ride to the Sandals resort. It took us approximately 1 hour to arrive. There are also helicopter rides that you can take if you choose to spend the money, but we chose to view the scenery along the way. It is worth mentioning that they drive on the left side of the road which is rather scary if you are used to the right! |
